Acle Early Medieval Re-enactment Society is a proud independent group established in 2009. We recreate living history and military interpretations from the Early Medieval period, mainly Anglo-Saxon, and occasionally Anglo-Dane, Viking and Norman.

Acle is a family focused group with members of all ages. Members choose their focus and can be involved in living history and combat demonstrations with no prior knowledge required. We include all abilities in our living history and combat, and combat training is provided by our ‘Thegn’ (Combat Officer). Members are encouraged to research their interests and the group leaders advise on authenticity.
Based in Newton Aycliffe, Co. Durham, Acle has members from around the UK who meet regularly for events at various locations in the North East. We also train once a month at Middridge Community Centre near Newton Aycliffe.

The Witan
The Witan is made up of seven elected members of the society who make decisions on behalf of the group. There must always be an odd number of members on the Witan to avoid any decisions being a tie. Meet the members of the Witan below.
